The Alliance Symphony Orchestra and the University of Mount Union will
present a Solo con Tutti concert on April 15 at 3 p.m. inside the Alliance High School
Auditorium.

The performance will showcase solo performances by the 2011 Concerto and Aria
Competition award recipients including pre-college performers, Patrick Zhang and
Yunsang Cho, and community award winner and Alliance resident, Karen Perone.

In addition to accompanying the soloists, the 70 member community and student
orchestra will perform Edward Elgar’s Military March in D Major and Dance Rhythms for
Orchestra by Wallingford Riegger.   The ASO is under the direction of Conductor Eric Benjamin.

Patrick Zhang, a junior at Revere High School, will perform the first Movement from
Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 16. Yunsang Cho, a Medina area
student, will perform the first movement from the Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor by
Camille Saint-Saëns.

Alliance resident, Karen Perone, is a librarian by day at the Rodman Public Library
and a flutist by night often performing with the Canton Concert Band, Tuscarawas
Philharmonic, and Carnation City Players. The ASO will accompany her on Poem
for Flute and Orchestra by Charles Griffes. She also is founder of FluteBrarian Web
Design and serves as president of the Alliance Historical Society.

The annual Solo con Tutti competition is a collaborative effort between the University
of Mount Union and the Alliance Symphony Orchestra.   The concerto competition
showcases the exceptional talent of area musicians and the unique opportunity to
perform with a community orchestra. Each participant is required to perform one or
more movements of a standard concerto, vocal aria, single movement work, or a
concert piece with orchestral accompaniment.

Senior tickets are $8 each, adult admission is $10 and children and students are free.
Arts in Stark and Alliance Concert Association cardholders receive two for one ticket
